The road that developed through the interactions of people and goods

The old Koshu-kaido Road runs through the Kai Region from the east to northwest about 205 km from Edo to Shimosuwa. Centering on 25 post stations built in the Kai Region, a great amount of people, goods, and information traveled back and forth, helping the post stations to grow and thrive. This journey traces the tradition and magnificent landscapes along the road.

Fuji-michi

The road to Mt. Fuji

Gunnai woven fabric is high-quality silk fabric woven by using plenty of subsoil water flowing from Mt. Fuji. Worshippers of Mt. Fuji (Fuji-ko) headed to the top of Mt. Fuji, where they believed that gods and Buddha lived.
Tracing the road to Mt. Fuji, visitors find history and culture that developed in the area around Mt. Fuji.

The road to trace samurai culture in Kai Region

Chichibu Okan road is a mountain pass with fog, clouds and mist held by scenic sites full of nature. Along the pass, we see the traces of Takeda Clan (Genji) in the Kai Region and history and culture supported and passed down by those samurai.

Bomichi

The road that traces history and culture developed in nature at the foot of Mt. Yatsugatake

The southern foot of Mt. Yatsugatake was where the Minamoto Family (Genji) lived in the Kai Region. The road called Bomichi that runs through the area was thought to have been developed by Takeda Shingen, a feudal lord known as a great commander. The road was key to the distribution of goods and the lives of the people in the region.
It also shows us the lives of samurai and others in the old days surrounded by a magnificent view of Mt. Yatsugatake, the Southern Alps, and Mt. Fuji.
