According to the Records of the Kai Region, Mampuku-ji Temple in Shimokurihara was a Jodo Sect temple in Dodoriki, Katsunuma Town in 1658 that became independent from Mampuku-ji Temple.
The temple treasure was the remains of the Buddhist monk Shinran, which were thought to have been divided from Joko-ji Temple in Nagano, and stored in the crystal tower. The principal image of the temple was a wooden Amida Nyorai Buddha thought to have been made in the Muromachi Period (1336-1573).
There is a stone called the Horseshoe Stone (Batei Seki). The stone has what is believed to be the imprint of the hooves of the Black Kai Horse ridden by Prince Shotoku when he visited Mount Fuji. A statue of Prince Shotoku on a horse with a follower is enshrined at Taishi-do Hall, and a Buddhist service for Prince Shotoku is held in spring.
Two ginkgo trees, called the eastern and western trees, in the precincts were designated natural monuments of Yamanashi City. The eastern tree is quite large. It stands 22.5 meters high with a 14.50 m root circumference, while the western tree is smaller at a height of 15 m with a root circumference of 8.65 m.
