Kofu-Yanagimachi-shuku was next to Isawa-juku when traveling from Edo. It was located in the town that surrounded Kofu Castle, on the old Koshu-kaido Road to the south side of what is now the JR Kofu station and the west side of Yamanashi Prefectural Office. Along Yanagimachi Street (present-day Chuo 1-chome), post town services such as a main lodging and stables (toiyaba/ tonyaba) were provided, which is why it was named Kofu-Yanagimachi-shuku.
Kofu-Yanagimachi-shuku had one main lodging, one sub-lodging, and 21 inns, making it a relatively large post town. The Koshu-kaido road turns at a right angle in front of Yokamachiguchi at Kofu Castle, a design intended to make it more difficult to attack the castle.
The site of the post town is now the center of Kofu. There are almost no signs of that time remaining. There are, however, some old establishments such as Minayo, which created Nigai, and the 400-year-old Inden-ya Uehara Yushichi Honten, that show us the atmosphere of the old post town.
