In the Edo Period (1603-1868), Seafood caught in Suruga was transported to the Kai Region via the Nakamichi Okan road that connected Suruga (present-day Shizuoka Prefecture) and the Kai Region. The former Uomachi area near present-day 3-chome, Chuo, Kofu City played a central role in the distribution of seafood in the town around Kofu-jo Castle for over 400 years.
The street stretches in the south-north direction and intersects the old Koshu-kaido Road. It is now called Uomachi-dori Street.
Minayo, whose nigai became the local specialty food of the Koshu Region, stands along the street, and continues the tradition and the atmosphere of the old Uomachi area.
