The former Yokokinjumachi area was along one of the streets in the town around Kofu-jo Castle. It is on the east side of the Kofu-jo Castle ruins, present-day 2 chome, Chuo, Kofu City. The street stretching from Yamanashi Prefectural Office, which is located to the south of the Kofu-jo Castle ruins, to the east is still called “Yokokinjumachi Street.” Along the street is Yokokinju Dai-jingu Shrine, which retains the name of the former town.
According to Kofu City History, a bell was installed in Kangi-in Temple, located in the former Yokokinjumachi, during the Kanbun Era (1661-1673) of the Edo Period, and the bell rang out the time every two hours, 12 times a day, for the people in Kofu.
About 50 years later, the bell was relocated to Atago Town near the north exit of present-day Kofu Station, where it rang out the time for more than 200 years until 1872.
In 2013, a new bell was placed at Koshu Yumekoji in front of Kofu Station. It was designed from the bell at Genpo-in Temple, which was designed from the bell in Atago Town.
