Hotaru Water Park was developed through the efforts of the Daigahara Hometown Development Council, an organization made up of residents in Daigahara, Hakushu Town, Hokuto City. It covers an area of about 7 km2, through which an approximately 300 m-long water channel meanders. Water is brought into the park from nearby Ojira River, and an environment was developed for black snails, which provide food for fireflies. In spring each year, children in Daigahara release Genji firefly larvae. With Heike fireflies living naturally in the park, visitors can enjoy their fantastic glow in June and July.
The arbor and observation tower with a view of Mount Kai-Komagatake make this park the perfect place to view a beautiful landscape. Cherry trees on a hill are also beautiful, and people in the community gather here for recreation and relaxation.
