When heading to Mount Fuji from Edo along the Koshu-kaido Road, this is the first place where travelers can access the Katsura River, which originates from the foot of Mount Fuji. Worshippers purified themselves with the river water to prepare for their visit to Mount Fuji.
Among the stonework, there are two stone monuments, called Sengento, which were erected by worshippers of Mount Fuji, and other stone monuments engraved with the characters Fuji-Asama Okami, Ganso-Kakugyo Reijin, Shokugyo Reijin, and more. Ganso-Kakugyo means Kakugyo, the founder of fuji-ko, and Shokugyo means his disciples.
