Eun-in Temple is a Soto sect temple that was founded by Takeda Shingen’s grandfather Nobutsuna and flourished under the protection of the Takeda Clan during the Warring States Period (1467–1603). It is a trove of valuable cultural properties that speak of the temple’s deep ties to the Takeda Clan, including Takeda Nobutsuna’s grave, a letter of donation written by Shingen’s father Nobutora, and a portrait of the founding priest Setsuda Sogaku painted by Takeda Shoyoken Nobutsuna.
A wide variety of plum trees are planted on the temple grounds. This is also mentioned in Kai Kokushi (Official Records of Kai Province), an Edo Period (1603-1868) compilation of regional topographical information. A tree said to be planted by Shingen is accompanied by a monument describing its history.
