Dr. Satoshi Omura, laureate of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, was born in Kamiyama Town, Nirasaki City. The house where he spent his childhood through to his graduation from Yamanashi University was a representative silk-raising farmer’s house in the region, and is a Registered Tangible Cultural Property. The main building was built around 1907, and the earthen storehouse around 1916. In 2016, Nirasaki City received the house from Dr. Omura as a donation and renovated it as a members-only share house named Keisetsuryo. The original house was dismantled, repaired and restored while preserving its erstwhile appearance, and is now being used as a venue for training programs, workshops and country-life experience, and as a gathering place for local residents.
Nirasaki Omura Art Museum and a day-trip hot spring facility are located only a close distance from Keisetsuryo. Takeda Hachimangu Shrine, Hakusan-jo Castle Ruins, Ganjo-ji Temple, and the Site of Takeda Nobuyoshi’s Residence are also within walking distance.
