In post-war Japan, reclamation projects were launched under national policy as means to increase food production and to create employment for demobilized soldiers and victims of war.
Groups of such people and war repatriates, in particular, formed communities and also settled in today’s Kamisasao District in Kobuchisawa Town. Immediately after the war in September 1945, they built Shinohara-jinja Shrine as solicited by Otaki-jinja Shrine.
Shinohara-jinja Shrine venerates the water that has been consecrated by a deity spirit imparted by Otaki-jinja Shrine. As such, it consoled the hearts of settlers who suffered repeated hardships, and became a source of inspiration to them.
