Nichiren Shonin passed away in the middle of his journey, leaving his wish to be buried on Mount Minobu. Hakkaku-do Hall (Octagon Hall), which stands behind the Worship Hall at Kuon-ji Temple, enshrines his remains and is registered as a national tangible cultural property. The hall was relocated from Nishitani and extended in 1474, and his remains were placed in their current location. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire in 1875. However, it was rebuilt in 1881 and remains today as it was. The hall has plaster walls, copper sheet roofing, and gable-style bay windows on the east and west sides. In the hall, a Buddhist altar sits in a golden pagoda on a platform in the inner sanctum surrounded by rainbow-shaped tie beams with carved angels (ebi koryo). The beams and carved figures are decorated with gold foil, and brilliant colors create a solemn atmosphere to the space.
