There are four cedar trees thought to have been planted by Nichiren Shonin at the Oku-no-in Inner Temple. They are registered as Minobe Town Cultural Properties. It is said that these trees were planted by Nichiren Shonin to show appreciation for his parents and his teacher, Dozenbo, and to pray for peace throughout the country. When going up the stairs from Kaiki-do Hall to Nio-mon Gate, the tree dedicated to his father, “Myonichi Songi,” stands on the right side and the tree dedicated to his mother, “Myoren Sonni,” stands on the left side. The tree, which is dedicated in prayer for peace throughout the country, stands among trees on the left side of the stairs, and the tree, which is dedicated to Dozenbo, stands on the right side of the temple grounds. All of these large trees are more than 700 years old.
