On the way to Oiwake from Shoju-an on the back approach is The Forest with a Thousand Cedar Trees. The view of approximately 260 large cedar trees aged over 250 years standing on about 0.8 hectares of land is noble and solemn. The size of the tree varies; however, the circumference of most of their trunks is about 3 m, and some are more than 5 m. The Forest with a Thousand Cedar Trees is a natural monument designated by Yamanashi Prefecture. Some of its trees are included in the 100 Largest Trees and Old Trees in Yamanashi, and the forest itself is included in the 100 Great Forests in Yamanashi. The Five-storied Pagoda of Kuon-ji Temple built in 2008 was made of cedar cut from the forest.
