The Akasawa Area in Hayakawa Town is along the Minobe Okan road that connects Minobusan (Mount Minobu) Kuon-ji Temple, the head temple of Nichiren Sect, and sacred Mount Shichimen. It flourished as a Kochu-yado, an inn for worshippers since the Edo Period (1603-1868). With the increase in small groups (Minobu-ko) coming to worship at Mount Minobu from the middle of the Edo Period, the approach to Mount Shichimen developed. During its peak between the Meiji Period (1868-1912) and the early Showa Period (1926-1989), one thousand worshippers walked on the approach every day. The Minobu Okan road in Akasawa-shuku has been restored to stone pavement, which allows strolling visitors to feel the atmosphere of the Kochu-yado that was once filled with worshippers coming from all over Japan. Stairs have been built in sections where the slope is steep.
