The former Kajimachi area was around Kofu-jo Castle, and is the area of present-day 1-chome, Joto, Kofu City. Its history can be traced back to the time of Takeda Shingen, the feudal lord of the Kai Region. Kaji Street, ordered built by Shingen near the present-day Takeda-jinja Shrine, was relocated to the area around Kofu-jo Castle.
The town name “Kajimachi” was used from the early Edo Period until 1964, and it remains the name of the street.
