Site of Takeda Nobuyoshi’s Residence

Kamiyamacho Takeda in Nirasaki City is a village where Takeda Nobuyoshi’s residence is said to have been located.
Takeda Nobuyoshi, founder of the Kai Takeda Clan, was a warlord who lived during a period between the end of the Heian Period (794–1185) and the early Kamakura Period (1185–1333). He originally went by the name of Minamoto no Nobuyoshi, but changed his name to Takeda Taro Nobuyoshi when he reached adulthood and set up residence in this land after moving southward from Yato where the Kai Genji Clan gained power.
In 1180, Nobuyoshi led the powerful army of the Kai Genji Clan into battle and defeated the Taira Clan. It is said that he died of illness in 1186 at the age of 59.
The site of Nobuyoshi’s residence was situated in the flatland in the eastern part of Takeda Village. It is now occupied by folk houses and farmland, but part of the residence’s earthen embankment remains. Additionally, the vicinity is home to place names associated with the residence, such as Oyashiki (mansion), Obatabeya (flag room), and Matoba (shooting range).
Crystal and Chinese ceramic ware have been discovered in an excavation survey conducted in 2008.
